Serge & Maureen

A rom-com road movie about an older couple who’ve decided to celebrate their lives by ending it all.

A life affirming comedy about what it means to live, die, and love on your own terms. Little Miss Sunshine meets Harold and Maude.

Synopsis

Eighty-something Serge is dying of cancer, and his mercurial wife Maureen isn't going to let him face the end alone. After obtaining illegal medication in Mexico, the couple set off on a road trip across the Southwest to celebrate their time together by leaving the earth at the place they first met.

It’s a trip that takes more than a few surprising turns.

Hilarious reunions with old friends — radical ex-hippies and swingers from the sexual revolution — collide with awkward attempts to fix broken relationships with relatives and grandchildren. Their odyssey takes a surreal turn (literally, ecstasy is involved) when a chance encounter with a GenZ couple brings them to a rave in the desert, where new friends are made and some motives are questioned. But when someone from Maureen's past alerts the police to their plan, everything they've promised each other threatens to come apart.

This is a comedy that shows how the last part of a romance can have as much fun, adventure, and beauty as the beginning. Serge and Maureen are funny, angry, stubborn, passionate, and flawed. Together they have that spark where differences make them stronger and their goofy humor shows up even in the darkest moments.

Who is the audience? Anyone alive who's going to die.

The ending is where everything begins.
